Makeup Spring Cleaning

When the universe seems to spiral out of control, I clean. No, scratch that. I go on a reorganizing frenzy - empty out all of the contents of my drawers and cabinets and boxes and attempt to inject some sort of order, perhaps in an effort to regain just a teeny bit of control in at least one aspect of my life. So Friday saw me with this mess dumped on my bed.

You know the feeling of having nothing to wear despite having very little closet space left? I feel the exact same thing with makeup. I have way too much and yet I still feel the need to buy more. That has got to stop, but in the meantime this mess has to be organized and sorted. First stop, Ikea.

It took me forever to decide between the white one and the red one, and this was after I made two rounds of the Ikea showroom in a quest to eliminate the other options. (Random: Did you know that Ikea stores are intentionally designed to be like a maze to bewilder people into making impulse purchases? Me neither.) By the time I got home it was almost midnight, and I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning assembling the unit because that's the fun part, right? And I was finally able to bust out my toolkit the boyfriend got for me because I was to cheap to buy it for myself :p.

Finished product! Doesn't go with anything in my room, but it's cute and that's all that matters.

Next stop: Daiso.

Kinda awesome how the trays look like they were custom-made for Nars palettes. It also makes it tempting to buy more palettes to fill up the tray, but oh, let's not go there.

So anyway, this is where all my makeup resides now:

Quite happy with how it all turned out. The trays were a perfect fit! (And yes, I have one mini-tray for Carmex lip products alone, because I love that stuff.) There's something oddly therapeutic about seeing things all neatly lined up. Let's see how long I can keep it looking like this. I'm not overly optimistic but one can hope.

Have a good week :)
