Friday Favorites: Pink Five

Lately I've been liking the idea of bright lips, after years of nude lipstick obsession. Nothing brightens the face (and my mood) more than a pop of pink, and these are the five products I've been loving so far:

L-R: Nars Schiap, Maybelline Hot Pink, Givenchy Hibiscus Exclusif,
YSL Rose Vinyl, Makeup Forever Pink

NARS Schiap
Definitely not for the faint-hearted, Schiap is probably the best matte lipstick I've ever come across - no shine, no shimmer, just rich rich color.

Maybelline Bold Matte in Hot Pink (Mat1)
The color is reminiscent of the neon pink highlighters I used back in college, but once it's on it turns into this really fresh, vibrant pink that pairs well with a clean face and some mascara. The name is misleading as the finish is more satin than matte, but other than that it's a pretty awesome formula.

Givenchy Le Rouge in 302 Hibiscus Exclusif
Confession: I stalked this lipstick like a madwoman. I blame Sephora. They had testers out, so I tried it on, fell in love, and guess what? They didn't have stock! Why? Why put testers out when it's not available if not to break out consumerist hearts? The next day I went to another Sephora, but apparently, Givenchy is only sold in their Ion branch (which was the aforementioned branch that did not have stock). So I headed off to Isetan Scotts, and I haven't even laid one finger on the testers when the sales assistant approached me and whispered, "we have no more stock". Oh, the humanity.
The next day (yes, this madness went on for a while), I called the Givenchy counter at Paragon. Ehm. Of course they had no stock. But there was a silver lining: they can reserve one for me as soon as they get them. And so that very weekend I rushed to Paragon and finally got my grubby mits on the damn lipstick.

Hibiscus Exclusif a gorgeous warm pink that brightens the face, and the Le Rouge formula is creamy and comfortable and pigmented. The price tag is on the exorbitant side, but hey, it's packaged in real leather!

YSL Glossy Stains in 15 Rose Vinyl
It took me a while to warm up to this product because it's a tricky, tricky formula. I find that to get the best results, you first apply one layer, wait for it to settle (in a minute or two), and then proceed with the second layer. This wears very comfortably, and if you hate sticky gloopy gloss you are going to love this. It has a very strong fig scent, which I happen to love but can throw some people off so try it first before splurging.

Makeup Forever Aqua Rouge in 15 Pink
This is a two-step product with a lip stain on one end and a clear gloss on the other. The stain side is a light warm pink when first applied, but it darkens considerably once you apply the gloss on top. There is a very strong chemical scent, and it does feel quite heavy on the lips, but once it's on this product does not budge. At all. The gloss wears off, sure, but the color stays. It's kinda nuts. This is how the swatches above look after a furious wet wipe encounter:

Crazy, huh?
What's your favorite pink lip color?
